Talking & listening to threads
Welcome to my blog. I will be posting about the progress of new works and generally letting you know what I'm up to.
Pictures of completed pieces and extra photos of new work can be found in the Image Gallery.
The comments section for the blog is now live. In order to post comments you will need to subscribe, you can then be sent a notification when I post a new item. The process only takes a couple of minutes. Your details won't be passed onto anyone else and you'll only get the subscription emails.

It's been ages since I posted and little embroidery has been done since the beginning of August. After coming down with a horrid chest infection I was off work for almost the whole of August and September but so unwell that I had no concentration or energy left for JE. I did sit and do quite a lot of crochet so some work was done.

After a long time I have an empty frame, the design for JEUK module 8 is complete. Now I really, really need to get the others complete before I start anything else. I found it very difficult to work on this piece in the winter, the light was so poor that I just couldn't see the valleys in the fabric and as it's all done in fuzzy effect that was quite a problem. Once the light improved it came along very quickly.

I've done bits and pieces on this piece over the last few months so thought it was time for a bit of a catch up. When I last posted I'd completed the foundation on the biggest of the leaves. Temporary holding was put in and I used a shell powder transfer for the veins. These were embroidered using line of staggered diagonals in various colours.

Here we are then, part three on novel effects. I've shared some of these before but it's been a while and they bear repeating. This was a gift to Michicko from the mother of one of her friends. It was created when she learned embroidery at school as a teenager about 70 years ago. Enjoy.

One of my Japanese embroidery friends often returns from visits home to Japan with 'treasures' to share with us. Two of these have been sample books of stitches for Japanese embroidery. Included are standard stitches that we use all the time, others are variations on those or on novel effects. I thought I would share some of these with you, I hope they inspire you to try something a bit different with your stitching.

New blog post - I have been working on two long standing projects since my last post, they are both quite slow to grow so there isn't much progress to show. A good excuse for another Beauty of Kimono post. As usual all these pieces come from Ichiroya and are linked back to their site.

There has been a bit of a chrysanthemum fest here over the last few weeks. This all follows on from Black Heart which I embroidered in 2011. I had always planned to do more chrysanthemums using just two colours or two tone. Events and ideas overtook me and I never started another one despite having a number on my 'to do' list.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I've been off work for a few weeks while I wait to start my new job on 5th January so I've been able to get in some serious stitching time. As well as completing my Moon Cherries design I've completed another design which I embroidered as a Christmas gift for my sister. Now it has been delivered I can share it with you.
